The origins of DOT Pots™ dates back to France in 1962. The Fertil Company began producing biodegradable wood fiber pots in the Vosges mountain region of France to meet the needs of local growers. What they were looking for was a better way to transplant their fruit and vegetables into the growing fields. They needed a way to reduce transplant shock and save on labor costs. A biodegradable wood fiber pot was the answer.
For more than 50 years biodegradable wood fiber pots have been used to promote vigorous root growth in the container, and later in the landscape. European growers have used these breathable wood fiber pots for a wide range of plant material including forestry, vegetable, ornamental, hydroponic, and foliage production.
The wine grape industry has been one of the greatest beneficiaries in reducing time from propagation through to harvest. A better root structure enables vineyards to plant smaller plant with superior roots and then harvest wine grapes earlier from better-established vines.
The woodlands surrounding the factory in Le Syndicat, France provide excellent raw material for the foundation of a truly organic product. A byproduct of active forest management, trees culled from forest thinning are brought to the Fertil factory for processing into growing containers. Fertil's commitment to stewardship of the environment is also evidenced in the two hydroelectric stations in the adjacent river that produce the electricity used by their factory.
DOT Pots have been specially selected from a wide range of sizes as the most suitable for commercial production, as well as ease of use by landscape professionals. Trials with growing times, root vigor, planting methods and transplant success have all shown DOT pots to be the superior choice for quality landscapes.
